Add a grid to a photo

Turn a photo into square-cell drawing references and a matching blank practice sheet. Preview locally, then download both PNGs.

Your photo, prepared your way.

Choose an image to start, or explore the included sample. Images are processed in this browser tab.

How to use it

  1. Choose a photo or try the landscape sample.
  2. Set columns or a cell spacing in source pixels. Select pad, crop or partial edge cells.
  3. Adjust line color, width, opacity and labels.
  4. Download the reference and blank sheet. Print them at the same width.

Square cells help transfer proportions from the reference to paper. Padding keeps the whole photo inside a complete grid; cropping removes incomplete edge cells. The practice sheet uses exactly the same coordinates.

Questions, answered

Will the photo be stretched?

No. Large sources are reduced proportionally to 2400 pixels. Padding adds a white edge, cropping trims the edges, and preserve mode keeps partial cells.

Are the downloads print-ready PDFs?

They are PNG files with identical dimensions. Use your print software to set the same width for both. This version does not embed a physical print size or create a PDF.

Does transparency survive?

Reference PNG transparency is kept in preserve and crop modes. Pad mode and the blank worksheet have a white background.

Can I use GIF or animated images?

Animated files are rejected so frames are not silently lost. Export a still PNG, JPEG or WebP before importing.

Keep a drawing grid aligned

Choose complete or partial cells

Padding adds an edge to keep every cell complete. Cropping removes incomplete edge cells. Keep-image mode preserves the full photo and permits partial cells only at its boundaries.

Print the pair at the same width

Reference and practice PNGs have identical image and label geometry. Set the same printed width for both files. Printer “fit” presets can change that width, so measure the first pair before preparing a class.
